FAQs

Do I need planning permission for my oak framed garage or oak truss?

In many cases yes, but not always. Generous exemptions apply in many areas of the country in terms of permitted development, so it is always best to check with your local authority. We are delighted to offer you a planning drawing pack to help you with your planning application and advise you throughout the process.

You do not need a specific planning consent for oak trusses. However, please ensure you do have planning consent for the building work you are carrying out. We are unable to accept returns as a result of failed planning.

How does the oak garage kit or oak truss get delivered?

Each delivery comes to you on a dedicated truck. There are many important things to consider regarding the delivery before you place your order. Please read our Delivery page for more details.

What are the lead times for manufacture?

Each project is unique to you, so once you have ordered, the project needs to go to a structural engineer for approval, specifically for your site. Once the calculations are done, cost finalised and approved by you, the lead time from that point is between 6 to 12 weeks. We will advise you of the expected delivery date once the final drawings are approved.

What equipment do I need on site?

You will need suitable lifting equipment on site to lift oak trusses and heavy items of the oak garage kit into place. If you are unsure about what you need, please call us for advice.

What is included in the price of the oak garage kit or oak truss?

A full list of components will be sent to you as part of your final approval following the structural calculations. For a typical list of included and excluded items, please read our ‘Before you buy’ page.

Where does the timber come from?

Our oak and softwood are sourced from UK ad European suppliers with proven track record of sustainable FSC and PEFC accredited supply chain.

Is oak sustainable?

Although all tree types can be regrown individually, entire forests are irreplaceable and not all types of timber are harvested in a renewable way. It is vitally important that we are all responsible and check that we are not contributing to world deforestation. The amount of oak that is used in the building industry is largely dictated by its relatively high cost.

Oak is a premium material, so it only tends to be used in situations where it is to be seen and cherished. We only use oak from sustainably managed forests, where one or more new oak trees are planted every time one is felled.
